Stanmore Post - 25 September 2020
Dear Parents,
Children have really enjoyed spending time outdoors using our fantastic grounds to take our curriculum outside. Children in Year R have continued with their Woodland Wednesday or Physical Friday, which is becoming An Early Years Tradition. Maths has been the focus in Year 1 / 2 with children exploring place value outside. Year 3 / 4 have been investigating trees and plants, using the school environment to recognise features that plants need to survive. Oak class were inspired, by a local artist called Lizze McKellar, to try to paint using acrylics. Like Lizze, the children used photographs of the River Itchen to paint reflections of trees on the water. Children in Elm also enjoyed trying different brush strokes using acrylics to recreate the landscape. Juniper have made good use of the bikes that the Friends of the School organised for the children to have during Lockdown. Year 5 and 6 are also investigating the water cycle and noticing what happens to rivers from source to sea. An exciting outdoor learning Day at Stubbington Study Centre has been booked for Year 6 to replace their residential that we have unfortunately had to cancel due to the current situation.
This week Hampshire Music Service have begun live lessons back in school and it has been lovely to hear some music in the school again, including Listen to Me. If your child is interested in learning to play a string instrument, a brass instrument, piano or drums please contact the school office. Visit our website to see more. https://www.stanmore.hants.sch.uk/news/2020/9/25autumn-term-2020-work-and-house-points-f87bc
The children are telling us that they would like some variety in their play spaces. From next week, we will do our best to rotate the outdoor play spaces, allowing the weekend for the area to be quarantined. It is hard because there are so many rules and the children feel like there is a lot that they can’t do. We are responding and adapting as much as we can within the guidance to keep playtime a positive experience. We have some tyres that we are including in the quad area for a circuit challenge next week. We would welcome any good ideas for games or activities that would meet the Covid regulations.
At the beginning of October we will begin to make use of Google Classroom to provide remote learning if a child or class bubble has to isolate. We will also begin to move homework to this platform. This should be accessible through Google Chrome. More details will follow, including a log on for your child and a guide to setting up Google Classroom at home. If you do not have any access to the internet or a device, including a phone, that your child can use to access Google Classroom, please let your child’s class teacher know as soon as possible so that we can make alternative arrangements with you.
Best Wishes
Sharon Taylor
Autumn Term 2020 - sharing our work
Children have been enjoying the last of the sunshine this week and taking their work into our lovely grounds.
We have been lucky enough to have had a visit from local author Lizzie Mckellar, which has inspired the children to produce their own artwork and members of Juniper class and R2L have been working hard de-weeding our gardens.

Dear Parents,
We have fantastic topics planned and we are all looking forward to seeing the work evolve in the term ahead. Today you will have received two documents with information about your child’s curriculum work this term. One document shows an overview of what the class will be learning in each subject area. This might be History or Geography and where possible other subjects feed into that topic to bring it to life. The second document gives information about the key facts and the important vocabulary that your child needs to know for this topic. The words are for children to talk about and understand the meaning of. It is an extra bonus if they can spell them. Talking to your child about learning and using vocabulary is one way we can work in partnership with you to support your child’s learning. If you did not receive this information, please let your child’s class teacher know.
With the ongoing Coronavirus situation, home learning is likely to re-appear for individuals, families and possibly class bubbles at some point in the future. As a school we have listened to the feedback about remote learning and we are working on age appropriate ways to continue to match this to the learning at school. Difficult as it is for home and school, there is an expectation that if your child is isolating, they must complete school work. If you have to self-isolate, then please check the website to find the remote learning. If you have any difficulties with the home learning, please contact the school and we will be happy to help. Please bring in completed work and it can be added to your child’s learning journey back in school. ‘Live’ lessons are included as part of the Oak National Academy and White Rose maths that we are setting. If a class bubble has to isolate, we will include some age appropriate lessons with narration by the class teacher and more direct contact, providing they remain well.
Children who are well enough to be in school should attend. I fully appreciate how difficult it is to get this decision right. Judging whether your child has symptoms of Coronavirus, a cough or flu is a difficult call. I have attached a couple of useful documents so that at least we are all working from the same starting point. Please be re-assured that we are continuing to follow government guidelines but even more important than that, we will look after your poorly child and act swiftly to inform you if they are not well enough to be in school. We are also aware that getting a COVID test, either at test centres or as a home testing kit, is causing major difficulty and frustration. However, anyone who is displaying possible COVID symptoms should continue to try and access a test using the NHS test and trace system at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-a-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/

Stanmore Post - 11 September 2020
Well done to children, staff and parents for a successful first week back at school. The children have continued to settle into the new way of working this term. There are many positives. The school is calm and children are adjusting back into a working environment with their new teacher and classmates. They seem to be enjoying their new topics and have been proud to show off their work in their brand new books. Parents will receive Year Group Curriculum maps next week.
The class ‘bubbles’ are working well and we will continue to work in these as much as possible. Playtimes are also working well in ‘bubbles.’ Children eat their lunch with their classmates and then enjoy some time outside in their zoned area.
Next week the children in Key Stage 1 will re-start Read write Inc. It may be necessary to mix some of the children to ensure that the groupings are appropriate for the children. We will use other control measures including more reliance on social distancing, facing the front and limiting the sharing of resources to continue to minimise risk.
There are of course some challenges, I am sure that you have noticed that your children are tired and maybe more emotional as a result of the increased demands. If this becomes difficult to manage please let your child’s class teacher know and we can provide some additional support.
You will have noticed that the arrangements at the end of the day are gradually improving. I don’t think we will reach a perfect solution, although I am always open to an idea. I promise you that we have considered many options and believe that continuing to practise and perfect what we are doing is the best way forward at the moment. Your support in standing back, waiting, following the one way system and keeping your distance is much appreciated.
Should your child need to self-isolate whilst awaiting test results or as a result of a positive test in your household we have created home learning that should be completed. The work can be found at:

This work matches the key concepts that the children will be learning at school. We would like you to complete the work on paper ensuring that it is titled as ‘Home Learning’ and dated. There are plain sheets, lined and squared paper templates on the website for you to print off. Please return this when your child comes back to school. It will be added to your child’s book to show a sequence of learning with as few gaps as possible. If you need work printed off, please contact the office. Children who are unable to complete work at home during isolation will be invited to attend homework club on their return so that they do not fall further behind. If a whole bubble has to isolate, we will inform you and there will be a more detailed plan for home learning.
Best Wishes
