A huge congratulations to all of our Stanmore families and teachers. We are definitely the BEST school. This morning got off to a great start with 92% of children in Year 1- 6 returning to school after the restricted opening and summer holiday. Almost everyone made it in on time and children settled into their classes quickly. The children looked smart in their school uniform and almost all were happy to return to their classes and their friends. This is a reflection of the work that we have done together, as a whole school community, to maintain a sense of belonging and some continuity during the past few months.
Next week you will receive an email from your child’s class teacher. This is by way of virtual introduction and in place of our usual ‘meet the teacher.’ If you wish to share any information about your child, you have the option to send an email reply. Alternatively, you may prefer to arrange a telephone call for an issue or query that requires more discussion.
The children have spent the day in their class ‘bubbles.’ This has remained consistent inside the classroom, during lunch and outside during break time. Each ‘bubble’ is staying apart from other ‘bubbles’ as much as possible. This is one of the systems of control measures that we have in place to keep children safe. Handwashing continues to be an important control measure. Please help us by reminding your child about social distancing. Naturally, younger children enjoy physical play with each other but we are discouraging physical contact during both play and sport. In their bubbles, children are seated facing the front and trays are kept under the tables to minimise movement within the classroom. Thank you for not sending in large rucksacks and limiting the equipment that you are sending in with your child. Movement around school has also been limited.
We plan to improve the pick up at the end of the day. Willow Class will leave from the end door of the KS2 corridor, nearest to their class. Parents should wait outside this door, keeping a safe distance from one another. Sycamore and Birch will line up on the KS2 playground. We ask that parents please wait further back, towards the field on this playground, to allow room for social distancing. Bollards will be placed on the playground to indicate where to stand. Please could all parents leave the site as quickly as you can after collecting your child, so that we do not have overcrowding of pinch points at the exits.
During the next half term, we will be looking closely at any gaps that have opened up in children’s learning. Each class will focus on key skills as part of a ‘catch up’ programme alongside the year group curriculum. The priority this half term will be: early reading skills, including phonics and reading fluency for older pupils, place value (understanding the value of each digit in a number), number bonds (a whole number is made up of parts) and times tables. Your help with this at home continues to be appreciated. Where necessary we will be providing additional lessons for some small groups. Homework will resume. It will be sent home next Friday to be returned the following Wednesday. This allows time for books to be left untouched for a period of 48 hours.
You will have noticed the building work on the land adjacent to the school. This land belonged to Hampshire County Council, and the school will benefit from the recent sale of this land. Plans are already underway; improving access, safety and some teaching spaces. During the summer, all of the Year R/1/2 classrooms have been decorated and they look clean and smart. Improving the school environment, both inside and out, is an important aspect of our planned school improvement journey. We will invite you to look at the plans once they are available.

SCHOOL LIBRARY
We would like to say a HUGE ‘THANK YOU’ to Mrs Barton, Mrs Best and Mrs Vincent, for their overwhelming efforts during the summer holiday to update our library. This has been a huge task, and their dedication to bringing our library up to date for the benefit of the children is much appreciated. We can’t wait until the library is back in full use.
FOOTBALL CLUBS
We are very excited to announce that R & R Sports will be offering football clubs to Year 5 and 6 children only, on a Tuesday and a Thursday after school from 3.30pm to 4.30pm, starting week commencing 14th September. On Tuesday, the club will be for girls only, and on Thursday, the club will be for boys only.
To begin with, as the Government has issued strict guidelines on contact sports, the clubs will be focussing on key skills, personal development and practising shooting into a net. As soon as contact sports are allowed again, the clubs will be playing games. The children showing the most talent at these classes will be selected for an ‘elite’ team who will be representing Stanmore Primary School at tournaments. Jake will be hosting the classes on a Tuesday and Thursday. The children are all known to him, and he has been supporting the school throughout lockdown, offering PE lessons to children in school. He is a very talented young man who is highly respected by children, and staff. He used to play for Southampton FC, and we are very proud to have him with us. MUSIC TUITION
Music tuition will be starting in school next week after a long absence. Parents who have asked for their children to have peripatetic music lessons will receive an email about this. If you would like your child to receive lessons, but don’t receive a confirmation email, please contact us via adminoffice@stanmore.hants.sch.uk
MEDICINE
For any child who needs medication in school, we must have a new form completed for this academic year. Please bring in any medication on Monday morning and hand to our admin team, who will be at the front of the school with ‘administering of medication’ forms for you to fill in. For those of you who have a printer, please find attached a form. Please complete it at home, and return to school on Monday. Any letters/forms can be posted through the outside post box at the top of the stairs outside reception.
PERMISSION TO WALK HOME
Thank you to all those parents who have completed and returned slips confirming we have permission for your child, in year 5 or 6 only, to walk to and from school unaccompanied. For those of you who do not have access to a printer, we will have them at the front of the school at the start of the day on Monday.
YEAR 6 RESIDENTIAL TO STUBBINGTON
As you will be aware, we were planning a residential trip for our Year 6 children, to Stubbington in November 2020. The Government guidance currently does not allow for children to have overnight stays away on educational trips. We are looking at all options available to us, and hope to have more information for you next week. Please accept our apologies that we are unable to give further clarification at this point, and be assured we are doing all we can to move this issue forward. Thank you.
Delayed opening of wrap around care - you can help!
A message from the Creative Kidz team
It is with immense sadness that further to our plan to re-open on 7th September we have to announce a delayed re-opening of our Breakfast and After school club at Stanmore Primary School.
We have spent the past few weeks planning our risk assessment and safe operating procedures in accordance with government guidelines and in consultation with Stanmore Primary School who fully support our re-opening and although we are now in a place where we can open, sadly the reduction in numbers of children requiring childcare has resulted in the club no longer being viable, we are not even close to breakeven and in fact if we opened the clubs now we would incur losses of approx. £2000 per month which we cannot allow to happen.
We anticipate that once the government Job Retention scheme ends on 31st October 2020 we may see an increase in demand as people get back to work and therefore we plan to review re-opening in early October with the aim to re-commence after October Half term. This will of course be subject to the bookings we have at the time.
What can you do to help us re-open?
We do not want to become another government statistic. Rest assured, our staff team are enthusiastic and ready to return to work as soon as possible, all the necessary plans are in place to ensure our settings are Covid-safe and we have the full support of the school.

We encourage you to spread the word to help us to increase bookings. If you think you will need us then book now to avoid disappointment, this will also enable us to factor in your request into our projections. If you know anyone who may possibly need childcare before or after school please hassle them to make a booking as soon as possible.
Let’s make this club viable and allow us to continue the amazing plans we have for wraparound childcare at Stanmore Primary School!
I can confirm that we CAN now accept ad hoc bookings and therefore you do not need to be tied into a contract unless this fits your circumstances. I hope that you are well and that you and your family have enjoyed some good weather and hopefully a break during the summer holidays.
The staff teams are excited to meet their new classes and are preparing to welcome all children back for the start of term. We have missed having the whole community in school together. The school site looks ready for a new school year, the KS1 classes are newly decorated and look fantastic.
Welcome to our new members of staff, Mrs Joyce who will be teaching in Willow, Miss Williamson, who will be teaching in Maple and Mrs Scarr who will be supporting children in Ready to Learn. We would like to send our congratulations to Miss Hurley and her family on the birth of a baby girl. Congratulations to Mr Foard and his family on the birth of a baby boy.

Coronavirus - information and plans for returning to school in September 2020

School starts for all pupils in Year 1 – 6 on Friday 4th September and for pupils in Year R on Monday 7th September.

September Opening
In the guidance issued by the Government at the beginning of July, it is stated that all pupils, in all year groups, will return to school full-time from the beginning of the autumn term. We have made plans for this to happen safely. Our overall aim is to continue to deliver a high quality education so that all of our children can thrive. In order to keep everyone safe, we are continuing to make necessary adjustments to our school routines. Our plan for safety follows government advice closely and includes:
Making sure that people who are ill stay at home
Making sure everyone practises good hygiene techniques
Cleaning the school more intensively than we used to
Active engagement with NHS Test and Trace arrangements
Adjusting school routines to reduce contacts amongst those on site
Managing the risks for your children
If your child or anyone in your family becomes unwell with symptoms
Please don’t send your child to school, if they have a new or continuous dry cough, a high temperature and loss of smell or taste. Please let us know and book your child to be tested immediately. If the test result is positive, the symptomatic child will need to stay at home for 10 days. Other family members will need to stay at home for 14 days. If the test result is negative then the ill child should stay at home until they are well. Further government guidance can be found here.
If your child becomes unwell with symptoms at school
Your child will be cared for by a member of staff in Acorns. You will be contacted and asked to collect your child from Acorns and then advised to follow the Covid-19 guidance for households with possible coronavirus infection.
If there is a confirmed case in the school community
We will contact our local health protection team who will guide us through the process of determining who has been in close contact with the person who has tested positive. Anyone who has been in close contact with a person who has tested positive will need to self-isolate for 14 days.
Minimising the number of contacts that children have in a day
We will minimise contact by organising the school day including, lessons, lunch and break times in class bubbles of 30. These ‘bubbles’ will remain as one class during the day, including break and lunch times. This is to minimise contact as much as possible. We can begin to increase the size of the bubbles from classes to year groups, initially for the younger pupils when the guidance indicates that it is safe to do so. We will minimise the number of adults that children come into contact with as much as possible while maintaining the quality of education. Where adults in addition to the class teacher or teaching assistant are needed to work with a class, social distancing will be the main protective factor.
Systems for enhanced hygiene practices
Frequent handwashing practices will continue, as well as a regime of cleaning surfaces and contact points throughout the day. Please remind your child of the importance of good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach.
Face Masks
Based on current guidelines from the Department of Health, primary school pupils do not need to wear facemasks. Staff will not be wearing face masks as we are able to rely on other protective measures, such as social distancing and limiting contact between classes. We are not expecting parents to wear masks on the school site. Parents should remain outside the building unless a meeting has been pre-arranged. We will continue to listen and act on any updates and notify you if there are any changes.
First Aid and management of cross contamination
Every class has a first aid kit and a book to record incidents and any potential C-19 cross contamination. The teacher will deal with any first aid incidents and record them in the class book as a ‘green’ incident. A first Aider will be called to the class for a head bump or more serious cut or bruise and record this as an ‘amber’ incident. Parents will be notified by text or phone call in the same way as usual. Parents will continue to always be notified straight away in the event of a serious medical incident. If there has been any risk of cross contamination this will also be recorded. Staff have PPE to use if there is a first aid incident or a child accidentally wets or soils themselves. Don’t worry, we have spare clothes for your child.
Managing the School Day
School start and finish times
We are not operating a staggered start because the size of our site enables a good flow of people to move around safely. Our one way system is effective in promoting social distancing. Children should arrive between 8:30 and 8:50am. On Friday we will allow more time for people to arrive locking the gates at 9:15am. From Monday 7th September, the gates will be locked at 9am. We are aware of ‘pinch points’ at the end of the school day, particularly by the KS2 gate. If children in Year 5 and 6 can walk home or meet an adult outside the school gates that would help ease congestion. Parents are asked to arrive just before pick up time. KS1 3:10pm KS2 3:15pm.
Drop off and pick up
Social distancing is expected across the school site. Parents need to be mindful of social distancing leading up to the classroom door. If children can manage to go into the outside space in front of the classroom door independently that would help. Only one parent should accompany the child onto the school site.

Attendance
It is expected that all children will attend school. This is a legal responsibility. Shielding advice paused on August 1st so this applies to all children. Most parents and children will be pleased to get back to the routine of school. We understand that some children and parents will feel anxious. Some children may show challenging behaviour and refuse to re-start school. We will work with you and your child if there are any difficulties. Once they are back into a routine they will all be fine. Creating a strong routine from the start will make it easier for you and your child. Please get them up and ready in plenty of time. It is hard to have a good day from a late start. It only adds to the problem if an already anxious or school reluctant child arrives late because everyone else is already settled and knows what they are doing.
Notifying the school of absence
If a child is absent due to illness parents MUST phone the office every day by 9am stating the reason for absence.
Clothing
Children should wear school uniform including school shoes. Normal good personal hygiene and regular washing of clothes is recommended. Children should not bring in PE bags. Instead PE kits should be worn to school on the day of PE lessons. As the weather becomes colder during the term, plain joggers or leggings can be worn in place of PE shorts. PE lessons will begin on the week beginning Monday 7th September and you will be notified of your child’s PE day.
Belongings
Children will need to bring a bag containing a water bottle, lunch box and any homework. For children in Year R the Stanmore book bag will be provided by the Friends of Stanmore Primary School. Children should not bring in large rucksacks. Please do not allow children to bring in soft toys. It is difficult to manage the safe handling of mobile phones. If there is a particular reason why your Year 5/6 child must have a mobile in phone in school please notify the school office to arrange secure storage.
Behaviour
Please talk to your children about the need to follow the school rules, including those on social distancing. Adults are asked to respect these guidelines and support us in managing the risks while on site.
Wrap around provision
This is unable to restart at the moment. The team have worked to create a risk assessment and safe practice protocols and are looking forward to welcoming children back into the breakfast and after school club as soon as possible. This week we have welcomed children from Year 4 and 5 as part of their transition back into school. It has been important to us to ensure that children and families retain a sense of belonging to our school. From talking to parents, it would seem that these brief visits have helped towards reducing anxiety about the return to school. I hope that this has been your experience. If you believe that there is more the school can do for your child to ease transition back in September please contact the school office.
This has been an extraordinary term and one that will last long in the memory. I am so proud of the whole school community and the way in which we have all adapted. Thank you to every single person who has played a part in keeping both a positive mind set, and learning going, either in school or at home. We would like to hear from you on how you feel we have responded to this highly unusual situation. Further guidance will be issued to parents on Friday 28th August, prior to the start of term. However, I would like to draw your attention to the following key points:
All children will return to school on Friday September 4th
School attendance will be compulsory and we will follow our usual absence procedures in the case of non-attendance.
Children will work in a class ‘bubble’ of 30 with limited movement around the school and there will be staggered break and lunchtimes.
All children are expected to wear their full school uniform.
Children can bring one bag to school – not a rucksack, please - containing a packed lunch (if needed), a coat, hat and sun cream (if needed) and a water bottle. For children in Year R the Stanmore book bag will be provided by the Friends of Stanmore Primary School
Children must not bring their own pencil cases etc. All school equipment will be provided by the school.
There will not be a staggered start or end to the school day.
Children will be able to arrive from when the gates open at 8.30am. The gates will be locked at 9.00am. The day will finish at 3.10pm for KS1 and 3.15pm for KS2
Parents should make preparations in the event of an emergency closure of a ‘bubble’ or year group. Parents may be notified at short notice of children not being able to attend. Notification will be via text, email and the website.
For individuals or groups of self-isolating children, remote learning will be in place.
There will be no school run clubs for at least the first half term, and possibly the whole term.

All reports will be sent home with children in school today in years R, 1, 5, and 6. If you have not received a report for your child, collection times from school are available next week on both Monday and Tuesday.

Farewells and thank yous
I would like to congratulate all of our Year 6 pupils as they come to the end of their years at Stanmore Primary School. I am sure they are taking away many happy memories. They are a super year group and we all wish them the very best for their future at Secondary School and beyond.
I would like to wish all of our leavers: Miss Norris, Mrs Lowy and Mrs Riches, every success in their new roles in September. They have all made a significant contribution to the school and we will miss them.

Dear Parents,
We are enjoying welcoming children back in to school for their morning visits. Next week, children in Year 4 and 5 are joining us and should arrive between 8:30am and 9:00am wearing school uniform and trainers. All parents and children should follow the one-way system and be dropped off and collected at the middle door on the KS2 playground. They can bring a water bottle, a snack and sun cream but no other bags or belongings. Children should be collected at 12 noon. Miss Norris and Mrs Horkan will greet the children in Penguins. Mrs Laver and Miss Norris will greet the children in Zebras.

Reports
We are in the process of sending home children’s end of year school reports. They are being staggered to line up with the days that the year groups are returning to school for their morning visits. Year 4 reports will be sent home on Tuesday and Year 5 reports will be sent home on Friday. Year R, 1 and 6 will also receive their reports on Friday.

This week Team Lions have been making 3D shapes with spaghetti and Jelly Tots. The children managed to make cubes, cuboids and even some pentagonal prisms.
Team Tigers have been finishing their dinosaur posters and exploring the strange and wonderful world of Wallace and Gromit and their inventions.
Well done to Sam Dickel and Lily Bennett who made some fantastic Titanic models at home. Sam’s was even made on Minecraft.
Team Catkins have been taking part in bug hunts: they have created their own bugs from toilet rolls and wool and completed a scavenger hunt to see what they can find.

Dear Parents,
We are looking forward to welcoming children back in next week for their morning visits Children should arrive between 8:30am and 9:00am wearing school uniform and trainers. All parents and children should follow the one way system to be dropped off and collected at the middle door on the KS2 playground. They can bring a water bottle, a snack and sun cream but no other bags or belongings. Children should be collected at 12 noon. Mr Read and Mrs Jones will greet the children in Meerkats. Miss Evers and Mrs Jones will greet the children in Lemurs.

Transition Back to School and Managing Worries
As we plan for children to return to school, we recognise that members of our school community returning after a long period of absence may be worried and have strong feelings and emotions about the transition. These worries are normal. Everyone has been affected by the pandemic in some way, and we recognise the importance of supporting all of our families back to school. Reports
Reports will be sent home over the next couple of weeks. They will be staggered to line up with the days that the year groups are returning to school for their morning visits. This helps us manage the distribution of the reports. Year 2 reports will be sent home on Tuesday and Year 3 on Friday. Other year groups will receive their reports next week.
Virtual Sports Day
This year's Sports Day is going to be a little bit different, due to the current situation we find ourselves in, so we are going to do a Virtual Sports Day.

You can choose which day of the week to do this on at home. We will make sure that the children in school are given the opportunity to participate too. Once you have completed the challenges and recorded your scores, please email your results and any photos to the usual year group emails by the end of the day on Friday 10th July.
Leavers' Service
This year the Year 6 Leavers' Service will also be a virtual experience. If your child is not at school and would like to take part, then please email a 5 second clip of them waving to their class and holding a 'Goodbye Stanmore' poster. Email to: year5and6@stanmoreprimary.com
There will be special activities for each year group to mark the end of term and more details of these will be shared by their class teacher.

Welcome to 2020 Sports Day!
This year’s Sports Day is going to be a little bit different, due to the current situation we find ourselves in, so we are going to do a Virtual Sports Week!
