Kings, Queens, Knights…. and football!
For world book day we looked at the book "What did the tree see?" We thought about what a tree in Winchester might have seen over its lifetime. As part of this, we researched Kings, Queens and Knights with a link to Winchester. King Alfred, Queen Emma of Normandy as well as King Arthur and the Knights of the round table. We drew a portraits of them.
We created a tree for each of the four seasons.
Fabulous Footballers
Our BEST school values were demonstrated by our excellent boys and girls football teams and their coach Mr Curran in their match against Olivers Battery Primary School this week. Our teams, proudly wearing the smart new kit purchased by the Friends of Stanmore, had two well matched games showing a range of skills and determination as well as great sportsmanship. Our boys delivered a memorable 3:1 win over Olivers Battery. Our girls held up well in their first long match eventually conceding a defeat. The atmosphere was positive and we had a good turn out from Stanmore parents, friends and family. Huge congratulations and thanks to all.
Maple
Children in Maple Class have been learning about the weather and noticing the changes to the seasons. Year 1 children have made windsocks to measure the strength of the wind. We had a super array of characters on World Book Day - everyone looked great!
Rowan
Rowan had lots of fun on World Book Day learning about King Arthur and the Round Table. We had lots of conversations about whether we thought the story of how he became King was true and then had a go at painting what we think he might have looked like. In science, we have started a new unit all about plants. We learnt about different parts of a plant and then went outside to sketch the flowers growing on the playground.
Birch
Birch class have continued learning about magnets. This week we have been looking at magnetic fields.
Sycamore
We had our visit from Ross this week in preparation for the River Trip in two weeks time.
Luckily, Sycamore Class were brilliant at remembering lots of key vocabulary from our geography lessons.
Aspen
This week Aspen class have taken their understanding of decimals and fractions to the new level, making links with percentages. They have also completed their art unit, culminating in their innovate project, looking at pencil, pen and ink drawing, using all their skills to create the best piece they can
