Stanmore Post - 19 June 2020

Dear Parents

The children in school are becoming used to the way of working with the social distancing guidelines and we are proud of the way that they are adapting and settling back into their curriculum work. Behaviour continues to be excellent. You can find examples of our work including our Learning through Empathy Day and our wonderful Titanic Collages at:

https://www.stanmore.hants.sch.uk/news/2020/6/12/summer-term-2020-work-and-house-points

Where possible we have linked the home learning to work in the classrooms so the children can have a similar experience. I am well aware that for children learning at home there are increasing pressures on parents and so we have included links to more independent learning. For families without access to a computer, we are still able to provide the learning packs, to be collected from school.

There are some changes to staffing to make you aware of. Firstly, Miss Norris has been offered an exciting opportunity as Head of Infant School at the Riders Federation in Havant for the next academic year. Miss Norris is a well-liked and respected member of our school community and she will be missed at Stanmore, but I have no doubt that she will be able to use her experience here to successfully lead her new team at Riders Infants. There will be further opportunities for us to wish Miss Norris well before the end of the term. We are looking forward to welcoming Mrs Joyce who is joining us next week and will be leading one of our Key worker pods. In the new academic year Mrs Joyce will be teaching in the Year 3 / 4 team. Mrs Mitton has already joined us in Ready to Learn and we are delighted to have her as part of the Stanmore Team.

We have taken the decision to move our planned INSET day from Monday July 13th to Wednesday July 22nd. This is for two reasons. Firstly, to create less disruption for families, particularly those who have only recently started back at school and secondly to enable us to react to any announcements for September which may not come until later in the term. Please accept my apologies if this change does cause you any inconvenience. The last day of term will now be Tuesday 21st July.

Stanmore Post - 12 June 2020

Dear Parents,

We have had a very settled week in school. Thank you to those who have been at the school, for your support in walking around the site for pick up and drop off and encouraging children to follow the new rules in school to keep everyone safe.

As you will be aware from the statement made by the Secretary of State for Education earlier this week, schools are not able to welcome back all primary children in Year 2 3 4 and 5 by the end of this term. We are waiting for further guidance on this. Meanwhile, we are looking at how we could work within our capacity to include more children in some activities before the end of term to strengthen their sense of belonging to the school community. The purpose of this connection would be to re-assure children that they still belong to our school and, although it looks different for now, they will still recognise familiar faces and know that we have the same expectation and ambition for them.  If we find that we are unable to do this safely on the site, we will make arrangements to do this virtually.

I don't have further detail on this yet, but I will be able to update you by the beginning of July. I have written separately, to parents of children in Year R 1 and 6 who have not yet taken up a place, asking them to confirm their intention for their children to return to school, or to remain at home for the remainder of the term. We support families in making either decision, but if we are more certain about our numbers, it will help us with our planning for the remainder of the term.

At the moment, we are unable to offer spaces beyond those in Year R, 1 and 6 or those already identified as vulnerable or in a key worker group. We recognise that this places those returning to work in other sectors; for example hairdressing or 'non-essential' shops, in a challenging position. In addition, parents are continuing to work from home remotely with increasing demands on their time. This is a frustrating and difficult situation but as a school community we have to work within the guidance provided by Public Health England. What we can do is listen to feedback from parents about ways to increase independence for children in their home learning.

This week, home learning includes links to the Oak National Academy in Maths and English as well as our school home learning tasks. Oak National Academy steps children through a lesson in a way that might be helpful to some families.

We are keeping a close eye on the situation for schools in September. We will act swiftly on any further national or local authority guidance, as it emerges, to catch up programmes including any suggested improvements to online learning in Primary Schools.

If we can help your child to access work in some way, please get in touch.

Stanmore Post - 5 June 2020

Dear Parents,

We have been pleased to welcome more children back this week from Year R, 1 and 6 as we move into another phase of the Covid-19 pandemic. This has been a very smooth transition. We really appreciate your support in following the guidance for moving around the site and in reminding children of the social distancing rules. The children have settled quickly and are coping well with the restrictions in place. In order to keep everyone as safe as possible, we have made some changes to our behaviour policy, which will apply during this period.

Variance to Behaviour Policy: https://www.stanmore.hants.sch.uk/policies/#Behaviour

We recognise that this is not an easy time for anyone. Parents will have different concerns. Many of you will have worried about sending your children back to school in Year R, 1 and 6. Others will be worried about returning to work and not being able to send children back in Year 2, 3, 4 and 5. Managing home learning may seem more challenging if siblings are back at school. The gradual easing of lockdown is certainly bringing new challenges. From the school perspective, we support your decisions, we acknowledge and appreciate the efforts you are all making and we know that people are doing their best under the circumstances.

Summer Term 2020 - sharing our work and latest House Points totals

THE TITANIC JOURNEY!

It was a lovely, peaceful night with no wind, no rain and no waves. It was perfect.

The TITANIC was out in the middle of nowhere and its passengers were fast asleep.

Until the iceberg scraped the side of the TITANIC with a sharp, loud crack!

Then water stared rushing into the Titanic and made it heavy.

They did everything that they could but IT SANK!

Children are encouraged to share the work they are completing at home by sending it to us by email to:

When you share your work with us, you may well earn points for your House.

These are the totals for the Summer Term so far.
