Stanmore Post - 12 June 2020
Dear Parents,
We have had a very settled week in school. Thank you to those who have been at the school, for your support in walking around the site for pick up and drop off and encouraging children to follow the new rules in school to keep everyone safe.
As you will be aware from the statement made by the Secretary of State for Education earlier this week, schools are not able to welcome back all primary children in Year 2 3 4 and 5 by the end of this term. We are waiting for further guidance on this. Meanwhile, we are looking at how we could work within our capacity to include more children in some activities before the end of term to strengthen their sense of belonging to the school community. The purpose of this connection would be to re-assure children that they still belong to our school and, although it looks different for now, they will still recognise familiar faces and know that we have the same expectation and ambition for them. If we find that we are unable to do this safely on the site, we will make arrangements to do this virtually.
I don't have further detail on this yet, but I will be able to update you by the beginning of July. I have written separately, to parents of children in Year R 1 and 6 who have not yet taken up a place, asking them to confirm their intention for their children to return to school, or to remain at home for the remainder of the term. We support families in making either decision, but if we are more certain about our numbers, it will help us with our planning for the remainder of the term.
At the moment, we are unable to offer spaces beyond those in Year R, 1 and 6 or those already identified as vulnerable or in a key worker group. We recognise that this places those returning to work in other sectors; for example hairdressing or 'non-essential' shops, in a challenging position. In addition, parents are continuing to work from home remotely with increasing demands on their time. This is a frustrating and difficult situation but as a school community we have to work within the guidance provided by Public Health England. What we can do is listen to feedback from parents about ways to increase independence for children in their home learning.
This week, home learning includes links to the Oak National Academy in Maths and English as well as our school home learning tasks. Oak National Academy steps children through a lesson in a way that might be helpful to some families.
We are keeping a close eye on the situation for schools in September. We will act swiftly on any further national or local authority guidance, as it emerges, to catch up programmes including any suggested improvements to online learning in Primary Schools.
If we can help your child to access work in some way, please get in touch.

Stanmore Post - 5 June 2020
Dear Parents,
We have been pleased to welcome more children back this week from Year R, 1 and 6 as we move into another phase of the Covid-19 pandemic. This has been a very smooth transition. We really appreciate your support in following the guidance for moving around the site and in reminding children of the social distancing rules. The children have settled quickly and are coping well with the restrictions in place. In order to keep everyone as safe as possible, we have made some changes to our behaviour policy, which will apply during this period.
Variance to Behaviour Policy: https://www.stanmore.hants.sch.uk/policies/#Behaviour
We recognise that this is not an easy time for anyone. Parents will have different concerns. Many of you will have worried about sending your children back to school in Year R, 1 and 6. Others will be worried about returning to work and not being able to send children back in Year 2, 3, 4 and 5. Managing home learning may seem more challenging if siblings are back at school. The gradual easing of lockdown is certainly bringing new challenges. From the school perspective, we support your decisions, we acknowledge and appreciate the efforts you are all making and we know that people are doing their best under the circumstances.

Summer Term 2020 - sharing our work and latest House Points totals
THE TITANIC JOURNEY!
It was a lovely, peaceful night with no wind, no rain and no waves. It was perfect.
The TITANIC was out in the middle of nowhere and its passengers were fast asleep.
Until the iceberg scraped the side of the TITANIC with a sharp, loud crack!
Then water stared rushing into the Titanic and made it heavy.
They did everything that they could but IT SANK!
Children are encouraged to share the work they are completing at home by sending it to us by email to:
When you share your work with us, you may well earn points for your House.
These are the totals for the Summer Term so far.

Stanmore Post - 29 May 2020
Dear Parents,
I hope that you have enjoyed a break from Home School learning this week.
In accordance with the Prime Minister's announcement on Thursday 28th May, we are now definitely opening the school from Monday 1st June for children in Years R, 1 and 6. Key worker and other named priority children will continue to attend in Year 2, 3, 4 and 5.
At Stanmore Primary School the return dates are:
Monday June 1st Children of critical workers and vulnerable children and Children in Year R
Tuesday 2nd June Children in Year 1
Thursday 4th June Children in Year 6
The later start date for Year 6 gives us an opportunity to review the whole school operational Covid-19 plan and make any necessary adjustments before increasing the number of pupils in order to keep everyone as safe as possible. Parents of children in Year 6 will be given a further update early next week.
I would like to set out in some more detail the practical arrangements for drop off and pick up next week.
The school site has been set up as a one way system. Parents should arrive at the Badger Farm Gate or the Stanmore Lane Gate and move around the whole site in a clockwise direction. It is essential that you follow social distancing rules on our site. When you arrive at the queue for your classroom please wait, observing the 2m distance. Don't worry, there will be staff on site to help you while we all get used to our new systems.
Monday
Team Catkins (YR) will be directed to the Year R door.
Team Giraffe (Key worker/Priority named) group will be directed to the middle door on the KS2 side of the building. Please queue next to the building, observing 2m distance and leaving plenty of room for the clockwise flow of parents.
Team Ready2Learn will be directed to the Ready to Learn classroom.
Tuesday
Team Lions (Y1) will be directed to the middle gate (where Maple/Rowan used to enter) on the KS1 side of the building. Please queue next to the building, observing 2m distance and leaving plenty of room for the clockwise flow of parents.
If your child is upset and needs extra re-assurance there will be staff to help you. Don't worry, we know that this could happen, but we suggest that you step out of the queue, settle them and re-join the queue.
At pick up, please repeat the clockwise walk around the school, form a queue again and when you reach the front, the teacher in charge will call your child from the class and hand them over to you.
Reminders
Only bring a water bottle and a lunch box if they have packed lunch
No book bag, PE kit or toys
Wear uniform, including a sun hat and trainers - not school shoes
Apply sun cream before coming to school and send a named bottle to stay in school if you would like your child to apply sun cream during the day. If your child needs hand cream this must also be named and should remain in school
Remind your child of the need to wash their hands and practice social distancing as much as is possible Send your Year R, 1 and 6 child every day if possible, once you have made the decision for them to attend school.
Continue to book in your child if you are a key worker in Year 2-5
If your child becomes unwell with symptoms - please don't send your child to school, if they have a new or continuous dry cough, a high temperature and loss of smell or taste. Please let us know and book your child to be tested immediately. If the test result is positive, the symptomatic child will need to stay at home for 7 days. The other children in the group will need to stay at home for 14 days. If the test result is negative then the ill child should stay at home until they are well and the remaining children can return to school immediately. This is also the case should a member of staff show symptoms.
If your child becomes unwell with symptoms at school - they will be cared for by a member of staff in Acorns. You will be contacted and asked to collect your child from Acorns and then advised to follow the Covid-19 guidance for households with possible coronavirus infection.
