To Bee or not to Bee…
Sycamore Class have performed in our annual Spring Performance!
It was a resounding success as the children looked brilliant in their costumes, sang tunefully, played a range of instruments and spoke loudly and clearly! We are very proud of them.
Maple
Children in Maple Class Year R have been learning about 3D shapes this week. They have built towers, spotted 3D shapes in the classroom and have found 2D shapes on 3D shapes. Year 1 children have been exploring capacity and volume - they loved using the water trays! We have also made some super chick cards!
Rowan
Year 2 have been really busy this week! We've been working hard to build our beach huts in DT. The children were really persistent when they were sawing the wood, which was quite hard at times and have spent this afternoon decorating them. Year 2 were also lucky enough to plant some potatoes in a raised bed near the field. We learn about how potatoes grow and we're really excited to watch them grow over the next few weeks!
Birch
Birch class and Rowan class have had their final forest school session. They have really enjoyed our time up there, working together on various things, from mud kitchens to den making to soil testing.
Birch class have had a highly competitive times table rock stars competition at home over the past two weeks, with the average child answering over 2000 multiplication and division questions during this time. It has been great to see this enthusiasm for maths, and there has been great progress in their times table knowledge. They have challenged all of the other classes to another competition over the Easter holidays
Aspen
Aspen class have had a wonderful week. We started with Bikeability, which the children absolutely loved. The instructors were so impressed they said, "This is the best group of Year 5s that we have had in a long time." If that doesn't show what a credit they are to our school, then I don't know what does! They were incredibly sensible and put safety as their top priority.
In addition, we spent a day exploring seasonal produce, culminating in us cutting, peeling and grating a variety of food to make a seasonal vegetable soup! The children really enjoyed being able to taste it, some even coming back for four portions! Finally, to start our geography project this term we planted some potatoes, flower bulbs and onions to watch them grow. To begin our innovate project, we planted these up officially in one of the flowerbeds at the top of the school. We can't wait to harvest these!
Elm
As part of our final dance unit for the year, street dance. The children worked in small groups to create their own routine to bring to the 'Year 6 Dance Off'. They brought all the skills, movement and attitude for the perfect dance off,
Eco
This week, The Eco Team met with Winchester Rotary to build bird boxes. Each box was designed for specific species including Robbins, Great Tits and Blue tits. Eco reps used all their keys to success to build the boxes, which will be placed in trees to attract birds into the school grounds. Well done Eco and thank you Winchester Rotary.
