Stanmore Post - 24 April 2020

Dear Parents,

I hope that you are all well and that you have found your way around some of the home learning tasks this week. The children that are attending school have also been completing these tasks and have also enjoyed some baking and pond dipping.

We are continuing to see regular submission of great work and we are proud of the effort going into this. We know that three quarters of our children are completing work and I expect there are others getting on with their own home learning in addition to this. Managing the demands of home working, home learning, shopping and living through this pandemic is a huge challenge. If you are getting children to complete some work that is good, remember there is no pressure. We are now able to provide more direction for you but this is not intended to be overwhelming. If you can help maintain your child’s motivation to learn and some stamina for working then you are doing a brilliant job.

This week the Government launched the Oak National Academy which provides a bank of high-quality, sequenced video lessons and resources for schools to complement their own lesson planning. We intend to make use of some of these resources over the next few weeks.

If we can help your child to access work in some way, please get in touch by sending an email to stanmoresupport@stanmoreprimary.com

Year R - All learning tasks are set on Tapestry

Year 1 and 2 can find their work here

Year 3 and 4 can find their work here

Year 5 and 6 can find their work here

We would love to see examples of the work that your child has completed. To submit work, please email it to stanmoresupport@stanmoreprimary.com This can be a photo of the work, or a Word / PowerPoint / pdf file (or similar). Please note any photos submitted should meet safeguarding requirements. Children should not be identified by their address or personal details in the photo and children should be appropriately dressed.

Examples of children’s work will be published on the website at the end of the week.  House points may be awarded for work submitted.

During this time all home school learning enquiries should come via the stanmoresupport@stanmoreprimary.com email address. Unfortunately queries and comments posted through Purple Mash, Dojo or school social media site will not be addressed. A teacher from your child’s year group will review all work submitted by 2pm each day and provide an acknowledgement so that your child knows that the work has been received. We are sorry but we are unable to provide precise feedback or 1:1 tuition at this time.

General School enquiries that are not related to home school learning should be sent to adminoffice@stanmore.hants.sch.uk

Please let us know if you believe that, as a result of changes in your circumstances, you may now be eligible for Free School Meals. We can apply on your behalf.

The David Williams Challenge - No No Noe

Screen Shot 2020-04-02 at 15.21.32.png

Every day David Walliams will read aloud an extract from his book and we will set tasks for each year group to complete.

Click here to listen to the story

Your task:

  • YR – Noe’s favourite word is “no”, what is your favourite word? Why do you like it? Can you create a list of your top ten words?

  • Y1 – Noe thinks “yes” is a boring word. Can you think of any boring words? Can you improve them? For example, big -> colossal.

  • Y2 – Can you write a set of school rules that would confuse Noe?

  • Y3 – Can you write your own story using one of the other characters in the story, perhaps Raj the newsagent, or Mr Potts the Caretaker?

  • Y4 – Can you draw and write a comic-strip version of the story, to re-tell the key events?

  • Y5 – Can you create a ‘story mountain’ plotting the setting, build-up, problem, resolution and ending of the story?

  • Y6 – Write a diary entry from the point of view of one of the other characters in the book, for example, Mr Gubbins the Headteacher.

If you need an extra challenge:

  • Can you draw a picture of the different settings in the story, such as the school and the newsagents?

Don’t forget to send your work to stanmoresupport@stanmoreprimary.com and your work will be forwarded to your teacher!

Look out tomorrow after lunch for your next set of challenges.

Making use of our grounds and exploring art

The children in school looked at Andy Goldsworthy's work and then created their own artworks inspired by his sculptures using natural materials they found in our grounds. They set up an open air museum and presented their creations. We think they are really wonderful.
