Friends of Stanmore - waterproofs, labels and a quiz

The Friends were super proud and excited with the purchase made this week! Year R received a class set of waterproof outdoor wear to help extend their outdoor learning opportunities. The teachers and children were delighted with their new equipment and it was all done with the amazing support we receive from all of you parents!

You may have noticed the new posters on our notice board this week, the FoS have created a new partnership with ‘Stikins’ name label company, more information should appear in your children’s book bags next week :)

Lastly, please let me remind you about our upcoming adult quiz night on Friday 6th March, we are aware you may need babysitters or time to get up-to-date on your quiz question knowledge :) we hope to see many of you there!

We hope you enjoyed your extra day at home with your children

Many Thanks,

Rachel, Hayley, Jen and Amy

A great big thank you to the Friends of Stanmore

The FoS have been working alongside the school and teachers to help fund some useful and needed resources for the children, so far we have purchased lots of fun games, guided reading books and some rather cute waterproof sets. The beaming smiles of the staff tell you how great it is to be supported by a great team in our Friends of Stanmore.

Friends of Stanmore update - 17 January 2020

Hi Everyone,

Firstly, due to all the amazing support we have received, and the funding we have raised, the FoS have been able to help support the school and teachers in providing them with a chance to ask for resources and extra items that they would like. We have already successfully provided year 6 with some books and the Ready to Learn room with some games and fun resources, this is something we feel very passionate about and hope we can continue to keep supporting.

We received a few gifts from our gift amnesty collections this week. These were very gratefully received and will be sorted through for our upcoming fairs, thank you for your kind donations. If you missed our dates, any further donations can be left in the school office.

On Thursday 23rd Jan, from 3pm, the Friends of Stanmore will be hosting a year 5/6 cake sale.  Letters should be out by the beginning of next week including an ingredients form, please can year 5/6 children and parents provide nut free bakes with a full list of ingredients to the office on the morning of the cake sale or straight to the stand. We will hopefully be bringing out the second hand uniform for any of you that are interested and I did see some water proof coats hiding within the racks, as it seems they have been very much needed this week. Please can I also add that we hugely appreciate any unwanted good condition logo uniform that you  no longer need, this will go towards more fundraising for your school and I am sure gratefully received by other parents!

A massive Thank you to all of you who attended this weeks members meeting, our next meeting with be held on Monday 10th February from 8pm at The Queens pub in St Cross. This meeting will be very much focused on moving forward with our new volunteer structure and so if you wish to become more involved in what we do, it would be awesome if you could make it, every one welcome to come along :)

Many thanks and have a lovely (wishfully dry) weekend,

Rachel, Hayley, Jen and Amy!

Friends of Stanmore - a cracker of a Christmas Fair

Adjustments.jpeg

The FOS would like to say a huge thank you, to all the parent volunteers, year 6 pupils and the wonderful staff who donated their time with the preparations, setting up, manning stalls and of course clearing up, and especially to the weather which also came up trumps!!!

Without all the generosity from the Stanmore School community, our events would not be the huge success they have been, so again, we really appreciate all of your support. Well done to Rowan, Catkins and Birch classes who excelled in raffle ticket sales and won the cash prizes toward their class party.

A special thank you to Mrs Vincent for organising this year’s raffle and for all those parents who helped gather a fab selection of raffle prizes. Another special thank you to Santa for stopping off at Stanmore for an early visit, we know he is incredibly busy with the run up to the big day!

We truly hope every one of you had an absolutely magical time! We know we did! It was lovely to see so many of you supporting our event, and we hope you are now in the festive spirit, ready for the next four weeks ahead!

We will update you very soon with how much money was raised.

Our next events will be our refreshment stall at the Carols in the Courtyard on Thursday 19th December and our participation in The Winchester Round Table, Santa's sleigh on Friday 13th December, more information to follow, but we hope to see you there!

Happy Weekend,

Rachel, Hayley, Jen and Amy.

Friends of Stanmore - a busy time ahead

Happy weekend everybody!

The Christmas fair is creeping up on us fast! The FoS and Christmas Elves have been working really hard to pull it all together. In preparation, we will be holding a Non-Uniform day on Friday 22nd November to raise prizes for the chocolate and bottle tombolas, KS1 could you please bring in boxed chocolate prizes and KS2 could you please bring in an alcoholic or non alcoholic bottle prize. The FoS will be collecting the donations in the morning from the school hall on the day. Along with these donations if you wish to donate any wrapped tombola prizes, unwanted toys or books we will also be collecting these donations during the week of the fair.

We would like to say a special thank you to Bella Barton’s grandma and Penny Mcclelland who have already made some generous donations to our tombolas.

Class reps have all been hunting down parent helpers for the stalls, if you have not yet been approached or have decided you could offer some help, please approach your class rep or one of ourselves. Your help is vital to making sure that we have enough hands on deck to run a successful fair!

Also, you may have seen your children have been designing some amazing Christmas cards. Proofs and order forms should have found their way into your child’s book bag, orders must be returned by Wednesday 13th November and returned to the school office.

Before I let you free to enjoy your wet weekend, on Thursday 14th November, after school the FoS will be holding a year 3/4 cake sale, books and uniform may also be available to purchase depending on the weather. Could years 3/4 please bring in nut free bakes, clearly labelled with ingredients to the office on the morning of the sale. If you are available to help with the cake sale please let us know, as it will be much appreciated!

Many Thanks,
Rachel, Hayley, Jen and Amy.

Friends of Stanmore AGM - thank you and welcome

The Friends of Stanmore want to say a massive "thank you" to everybody who attended our Annual General Meeting on Friday afternoon, it was a great to see so many familiar faces as well as some well received new ones, and brilliant to share all of the events and plans we have for the year ahead!

Following on from this I would also like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to Rachel Dickel and Ali Henderson who have dedicated a lot of time and effort into supporting the FoS, and the school, over the past few years, and who are stepping down from their roles. Rachel Dickel will still very much be involved in supporting events (hopefully) and is also playing a vital role in the schools outside project that the FoS is supporting.

Your new committee is as follows:

  • Rachel Wells - Chair

  • Hayley Malcolm - Vice chair

  • Jen Lockwood - Secretary

  • Amy Kruger - Treasurer

Our next meeting will be on Monday 14th October at The Bell on St Cross road at 8pm, everyone welcome.

Friends fo Stanmore say welcome back!

The FoS want to say "welcome back" and "where did that summer break go?"!

We hope you have settled back into the school routine and are ready to support us with all our events.

We also want to say "hello" to all our new parents and carers. Shortly you will be receiving a Welcome! letter from the FoS, with details on who we are and what we do. We are also in the process of setting a date for a coffee morning so you can come along and find out more. We hope that you and your children enjoy being involved in the FoS community and see the benefits and rewards that come with supporting us. We look to seeing you soon!

The first date for your diary is our world famous(!!?) cake and uniform sale. It's on Thursday 26th September from 3pm onwards. Please can Year R and all KS1 classes provide us with lovely cakes and bakes! All donations must be NUT FREE AND INCLUDE A FULL LIST OF INGREDIENTS. If any bakes do not have a list of ingredients then we cannot sell them. You can drop off your bakes into the office on the morning of the sale and pick up any named  tupperware the next morning, again from the office. Thank you for your support with this.

We have lots of other dates to tell you about but you'll have to wait til next week to find out what and when they are!! Thanks and see you around, Rachel D, Rachel W, Hayley, Jen and Amy.

Friends of Stanmore - discos, ice-cream and Rachel takes over from Rachel

The FoS had a fantastic evening on Wednesdayas it was our annual Hawaiian disco! Thank you to all those who gave their time to help set up and run the event. It was lovely to see so many children, parents, carers, helpers and teachers enjoying themselves. As always, Andy the DJ did an amazing job at keeping over 130 children entertained for 2 hours! That man deserves a medal! His details are on the FoS page of the school website if you would like to book him. He gets a five star rating from the FoS and children!

I also want to congratulate the children on their exceptionally good behaviour. It was a pleasure to watch and chat to them all. The FoS are always very proud to see Stanmore school children being their usual brilliant selves!

Next week, bags2school are collecting any donations on Wednesday, 12th June. If you didn't receive a bags2school bag please don’t panic! You can place your unwanted items in a normal bin liner. Please bring your donation to school before school drop off on Wednesday morning.

On Thursday, 13th June we are running an ice cream and ice pop stall from 3pm...whatever the weather! We will also be selling secondhand uniform and hoping to have representatives from Kings' school attending, to give advice and answer any questions you have regarding your child's transition.

Finally, we have very exciting news! As Chair of the FoS I have decided to step down and pass on the reins to Rachel Wells. She is a young mum who has been very supportive of the FoS since her son started school last September. The handing over period will be gradual giving Rachel time to settle in and adjust to this very rewarding role.  Please wish her the best of luck and support her as much as you have done with me.

Thanks again for all your support, Rachel D, Rachel W, Jen, Hayley, Ali and Jo.

Friends of Stanmore - Cake sale makes £185

Despite the rain, Thursday's Cake and Uniform Sale was a great success. We raised £185 so thank you to those who volunteered their time to set up and run the stall, to those who donated tasty bakes and to those who bought them!

We also want to thank Maggi and Kim, two ladies representing Kings School, who joined us at the sale and were able to answer questions regarding Kings School uniform. They will be attending our next sale which will be on Thursday June 13th so please use this opportunity to come and speak to them about any concerns you have regarding your child's transition.

Our next event is the FoS Hawaiian Disco on Wednesday 5th June. Details and consent forms will be arriving in book bags soon! Thanks, Rachel, Jen, Hayley, Jo and Ali.
