Why we teach science in our school

"Science stimulates and excites pupils curiosity about phenomena and events in the world around them. It alsdo sarisfies thism curiosity with knowledge. Because science links direct practical experience with ideas, it can engage learners at many levels. Through science, pupils learn how scientific ideas contribute to technological change. They learn to question and discuss science-based issues that may affect their own lives, the direction of society and the future of the world"
(NC Science 2000)

Aims of science teaching in our school

At Stanmnore we aim to teach the children both scientific skills and knowledge, to foster an enthusiasm for science, to think creatively and independently and to encourage open mindedness and sensitivity to the world around them.

Planning and Delivery

The science curriculum at Stanmore is based on the National Curriculum objectives. Teachers plan using a range of resources that make links between scientific knowledge and scientific enquiry skills. The Foundation Stage Curriculum is used for planning at the Reception stage. This leads progressively onto the Key Stage 1 curriculum.
