Our lovely library is called The Treehouse Library and is a cosy wooden cabin in our school quad.
It was opened in October 2016 by our fabulous Patron of Reading the sparkling Ali Sparkes.
She undid the big red bow and said ‘I’ve opened a few libraries over the years but this has to be my favourite. It’s a little escape into fantasy, right in the middle of the school grounds and it looks like something from a fairy tale.
Each class visits the library once a week where our Librarian Mrs Richardson reads them a story, poem or an extract from a story and the children choose a new book to take home. Everyone is encouraged to change their books regularly so that they can experience a wide range of reading genres. Our subscription to the School Library Service enables our stock to be regularly updated with new and established authors and ensures our topic work is well supported.
The Library is also open at lunch times on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 12:15pm and 1:15pm. Our fantastic team of parent volunteers are on hand to help with book exchanges or queries. Children really appreciate this extra chance to discover a new book or return a book they forgot to bring to their class session. It also gives them a quiet space to escape the bustle of the playground if they wish and enjoy reading a book or magazine.
